Dig It - 9/28/26

Hello Fellow Seekers. Today, we are going to take a look at a “Flat Top” bangle. When I first moved to Santa Fe 40 years ago, I used to see a fair amount of this type of bangle. I have always associated them with the Pueblos since that is where most of them originated. That does not mean that they were not made by Navajos, who for hundreds of years have traded and interacted with the Pueblos. I remember going to a feast day at Laguna many, many years ago and the Navajos were all camped outside the village, I even met an old Navajo friend from when I was a teenager. I really don’t remember seeing any of this style of bangle at the Trading Posts when I was a kid and I think they were mostly made for Native consumption. They're not quite fancy enough for the non-native trade. Well, they are getting quite popular again. This time with the non-native consumers. Lots of contemporary Native silversmiths are making their versions of these bangles. This one, Fellow Seekers, is nice and old. It has that warm, soft look of silver that has been loved and polished for over a hundred years. It is also for sale, so just holler if you think it might be for you. All the Best -Lonesome
