Dig It - 9/24/26

Okay Seekers, there has to be a story or myth being illustrated on this beaded bag. It has contour beadwork, so it must have come from one of the Plateau tribes and probably dates to the late 19th to early 20th century. Let’s see what we have here: a knife, a bear with an arrow in its back, a feathered lance, and a feathered, beaded knife sheath. 

It may be that this scene recounts a hunter’s prowess: “So, I was out hunting this bear; I shot an arrow in him, I dispatched him with a lance, and then I butchered him with my knife." 

Or, it may be something deeper, like a myth or tribal memory. I guess we will never know for certain. This pouch is for sale. Watch your top knot and keep your eyes on the horizon. -Lonesome.
