Dig It - 2/19/26
Alrighty then! Fellow Seekers, we have a treat for you today. This is a late 19th-century carving of Aalosaka Mana, a fertility deity and technically not a kachina. She has an up-carved kilt/skirt, which is an early trait and a male article of clothing, and a female shawl over her shoulders. The mask is very large in relation to her body, and her arms and hands are almost vestiges, both of which are early traits. Iām not sure if the orange is a native mineral pigment, as I have seen that orange on early pictographs; however, I tend to think it is commercial. One certainly sees it on a number of early carvings. She is about 12ā tall and really has all the magic and power of early Hopi carvings. Yes, Seekers, she is for sale, so step right up and purchase something great.
