Well Fellow Seekers, you know Old Lonesome is not really a moccasin kinda guy, but even I could not say no to these. The foundation is buffalo hide, placing the original moccasins before 1880. They are Sioux, probably Lakota. On the inner ankle sides are quilled images of Horned Beings, possibly relating to the Buffalo Dreamer Society or representing Tree Dweller Spirits, which are more of a Dakota thing. The quillwork for the horned beings appears to use earlier, softer dyes than those used for the quills on the vamps and outer ankles. I surmise that these moccs probably had two lives. Anyway, I just thought these were the coolest, and I love the imagery of horned beings and images of supernatural power found all around the world. -Lonesome
