Now and Zen:
Hey Fellow Seekers, what is Zen? Years ago I studied Buddhism. I cannot and will not claim to be a scholar on the subject, but I do believe I understand some of the basics. To me, Zen Buddhism is a Japanese discipline or sect that evolved out of the Chinese Chan sect of Buddhism, which emphasizes revelations or understandings that come from experiencing a shock like that of a lightning bolt, resulting in a crystal clear understanding. A sort of eureka moment, if you will.
There is something special about the simplicity of this early, probably 1880s, Navajo bangle bracelet whose ornamentation has been stripped down to a soulful purity, a clarity. The bracelet is made up of three hand-drawn wires, decorated with cold chisel strikes or hash marks. The bangles are joined together by soldered silver strips at the terminals. This is the very beginning of the great tradition of Navajo silversmithing, the “Big Bang," so to speak. This early bangle bracelet is for sale, and I’m hoping that some of my Fellow Seekers "get" the simplicity, beauty, and purity of this piece. -Lonesome
