Dig It - 7-28-25

Wee Doggy Fellow Seekers! This is the fanciest old Plains Indian doll that I have ever seen! She is Lakota, Teton Sioux (Western Sioux or Lakota), and was later given to another Lakota family from the Lower Brule Sioux Reservation, where she was collected. I have seen other dolls by this doll maker with the same applied nose and elaborate face painting, but this is probably the greatest of her creations.

The maker must have been very proud of this one, because of all the extra details. It is possible that it was made as a gift, since it was passed between two Lakota families. Some of her pouches may have been added by the second family, as the beads don’t match those on the doll’s dress. It is one of the best I have ever seen, Fellow Seekers, and I’ve seen a lot. Keep your eyes on the horizon and your powder dry.
