Dig It - 11/25/24

All right Seekers, simmer down, simmer down. Today, we are going to look at one of the rarest of the rare, a Navajo set of silver tweezers. Now most Native Americans do not have a lot of facial hair, but they can get a little stubbly around the chin. Before Gillette or Schick razors, the well-groomed Navajo man about town would pluck those unsightly hairs with a pair of tweezers. Ouch!

These tweezers are made from ingot silver and came out of Jay Evetts collection. On each side are “Yeis” or Navajo Supernaturals. We can identify them as female because of their square heads. Got to look sharp for the ladies. There is a little turquoise cabochon in a handmade bezel on the one side, which is possibly a later addition. How old is it you may ask? My guess is that it definitely dates before 1940, probably as early as 1900, but I have only seen two others and they were definitely 19th century. That's about it Fellow Seekers, I think it is time Old Lonesome trimmed his whiskers. Happy trails. P.S. these are for sale!
