Dig It - 2/27/23

Okay Fellow Seekers, I may have made a mistake. The last two dolls I blogged about I identified as Lakota, because that was what was on an old collection note that came with the dolls. I got two notices saying that the dolls were probably Cheyenne. One of these notices came from Rhonda Holly Bear, who I have known for 35 years, is Lakota, and is the Greatest Doll/Sculpture maker. So, I am going to agree they probably are Cheyenne. I think I will go back to using my old designation of Central Plains when I am not sure of a tribal-specific identification of the maker from that region.

Now this doll I sold a number of years ago is clearly Cheyenne, no doubt about it. The obviously classic Cheyenne design elements are the two blues, the white heart reds and white beaded lane at her hip, and the lane with triangular elements at the bottom hem of dress. The use of yellow ochre on the dress is also a Cheyenne trait, though other tribal groups use ochre as well.

So Fellow Seekers, I want to let you know I will always try to be correct, accurate and as truthful as possible. This is the Old Lonesome saying, Adios Amigos.
