You know Fellow Seekers, Mexican Masks are really amazing. The variety, styles and characters are beyond comprehension - Saints, Sinners, Conquistadors, Animals, Spirits, Gods, Monsters, Devils, anything one can imagine.
This mask is of a Coyote or Wolf, probably a coyote, who is the Trickster amongst many Native American peoples. More than being a trickster, this guy is downright scary. He was definitely made for Native use and shows some wear on the inside. He is crudely carved from a hard wood, and is certainly powerful and very fierce. Iām not sure which province or state state he is from, but my guess is maybe Chiapas, near the Guatemalan border. Again, that is only a guess. I believe he probably dates to the mid 20th century. This mask is for sale; reach out if you are interested.
