Dig It - 12/23/23

Welcome, welcome Seekers! Today, we are going to take a look at a turn of the century (19th-20th centuries, that is) Hopi Kachina carving. I believe she is a Rain Kachina. She is 9.5” tall and her face mask is blue, the color of water. Her beard represents virga, or the black hairlike wisps of rain falling over the desert. She has an old style dress and a manta or shawl over her shoulder. I love the carvers “Cubist” approach to his sculpture. She holds two replaced legal feathers. This is a very rare type of doll, the first Female Rain Kachina I have seen, and is available for sale.
