Ah OOOOOOOOO ha, Scary Stuff Kids, as the Count Floyd used to say on Monster Chiller Horror Theater on 2nd City TV.
Today Fellow Seekers, we are going to look at a mask from the Northern Alaska Eskimo, or as I like to say, the Inuit Peoples. Well, maybe this one is not so scary, but it is certainly powerful. This 19th century wooden mask is probably from the King Island region. It has a groove that runs along the outer rim of the mask that at one time likely held fur, which would make the mask look like a face surrounded by the fur-fringed hood of a parka. The area surrounding the mask’s mouth has been either intentionally defaced or naturally eroded away giving the mask a certain spooky quality.
Well, Fellow Seekers, I think this mask pretty much speaks for itself. Trick or Treat? I’ll take the treat, thank you. Aooooooooooooh!!
