All right Seekers, to polish or not to polish, that is the question! Whether early Navajo silver is Nobler in the eyes of the Beholder, tarnished or polished bright.
No self-respecting Navajo would ever not polish their silver. Wearing tarnished silver is a cultural Faux Pas. However, most non-Navajo Collectors like a little tarnish. It is the policy of great museums like the Metropolitan Museum of Art in N.Y.C. to always polish their silver, because that is the way it was intended to look.
What is the Prospector to do? I like a little tarnish. It makes the silver look old, and if one wears it long enough, especially with a long sleeve shirt, it will acquire the ultimate in good taste polish, the “shirt sleeve polish.” I will just leave it up to whoever buys these wonderful early bangles.
