When War Becomes Sexy...

Once again Fellow Seekers, it looks as if War has become popular (at least to the present administration) in the United States of America. This pipe tomahawk dates to another bellicose period in our country’s history. It has a steel head and a handle that is wrapped in what I believe is brass wire, which at one time would have been bright and shiny. As a sculpture there is something very lethal yet sexy about this "hawk," which dates to the 1860s or 1870s. I really can’t tell if this belonged to one of the Southern Plains or Central Plains tribes. Besides being a weapon, pipe tomahawks were status symbols and emblematic of a warrior’s prowess. You can see them in early photographs of Plains warriors, solemnly held across the chest. Powerful, scary stuff Fellow Seekers. Watch your Top Knot and keep your eyes on the horizon. -Lonesome
