Dig It - 9/25/25
Once again Seekers, we are going to look at Native American Art. I used "art" with a capital "A," but I must say one of my old professors used to say that Native American, and all Tribal Art, was art with a small "a."
It is amazing how prejudiced and small-minded some people are, and this guy was a top curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The joke's on him, though he has long gone under, with the Metropolitan renovation of the Rockefeller Wing to much acclaim. This is a late 19th-century Cheyenne child’s dress. The top bodice is decorated with elk’s teeth (a sign of wealth and status), beadwork, and yellow and red pigments. It shows how much the Cheyenne loved and valued their children.
This little dress passed through my hands many years ago, and it is a real pleasure to see it again after all these years. Keep to the right when you come to the fork in the trail, Fellow Seekers, and I will see you when you come to my cabin in the clearing. -Lonesome
