Dig It - 2/24/25
Well Fellow Seekers, when I first started in this business, Woodland Indian sculpture was about the hottest and rarest form of Native American art. This spoon is probably from the Anishinaabe or Chippewa/Ojibwe peoples of the Great Lakes region. They are Algonquian speakers pushed west by the Iroquois people in the beginning in the 17th century. The simple yet elegant depiction of a goose or swan on the finial of the spoon is extremely powerful. It dates from the mid to late 19th century and was most likely used for feasts and special occasions. Iām off on another adventure; lock the door on your way out. -Lonesome
