Howdy Fellow Seekers! I love floral beadwork. Many collectors shun it in favor of the geometric beadwork of the Plains Tribes. I find this foolish; however, one should always collect those pieces that sing to you. The problem is I hear many voices, so it can be a bit hard for me to focus on just one style or object. This shot pouch and powder horn comes from the Canadian interior woodland and dates to the mid-19th century. It was likely made by the Cree or one of the other northern Woodland tribes. It also probably had something to do with the Hudson Bay Company, which controlled the trade in the northern interior of Canada. I did not have much interest in these two pieces and did not want to mess them up by taking them to shows, so I gave them to the St. Louis Art Museum, where they reside today, though I don’t believe they are currently on display. They are beautiful, and the beadwork is vibrant and alive. See you down the trail. -Lonesome
