Dig it - 9/9/24

Now Dig This, Fellow Seekers! This is a Pile-o-Jewelry photo I did as an advertising hand out probably 16 years ago. Bracelets, earrings, ketohs, a pin, a belt and a hell of a squash blossom necklace, I had it all. I think the shot was suppose to mimic Aladdin’s cave or as the Pirates say, “Here, there be Treasure!” You know it used to take hours to set up one of these shots, to get one bracelet to balance on another. One false move and they would all collapse like a house of cards.

These “Treasures” got pretty well dispersed. I do remember that Gene Thaw bought the necklace for his museum in Cooperstown N.Y., where it resides today. If I remember correctly, the necklace was collected by an Engineer who was working on the Gila/Salt river project, to bring water to a growing Phoenix at the very beginning of the 20th Century. The Engineer bought it for his bride to be, patiently waiting back in Virginia. You don’t usually get a lot of provenance with early jewelry, and this one is pretty romantic. I doubt the lady wore it very much, it being a little out of fashion for back East. Well that’s my story Seekers and I’m sticking to it. -Lonesome
