Dig It - 6/8/23

Hello Again Fellow Seekers, today we are going to look at a late 19th century Cheyenne Dispatch case. WHAT THE HECK ARE THESE THINGS? Well, they take their name from leather pouches used by the US military to carry and protect orders. I believe that the Native Americans of the Plains adopted the basic shape to cary their mirrors, warpaint etc.

This Dispatch case came out of the collection of Ed Garret, who lived up in Colorado and had an incredible eye for beadwork. There was just something about his uncanny ability to pick out the pieces that Dealers call, “Tasty”, the right color beads, the right design and a certain amount of Crustiness, which shows good use but still retains its original integrity.

There is just something about the colors and designs on the case which is very happy to me. The pouch has a fabulous German silver button. The Dispatch Case is available for sale.
