Buckle up Buckaroos,
It is gonna be a wild ride! Today we are going to look at two Early Navajo Silver Buckles. The top one is cast, and the bottom buckle is forged. The Navajo started sand casting silver at the end of the 19th Century. This cast buckle must have come off a 1st phase or 2nd phase concho belt. I love the turquoise beads set in the four corners.
The forged buckle is also quite early. Now, this buckle came from Mark Arrowsmith, an old friend of mine who done gone and moved to one of them cotton-picking Island Paradises. This buckle probably came off a 2nd phase concho belt. I have probably had it for nigh on 30 years. I love the stamp work and especially the cone like feathers running horizontally from the center. Both buckles are currently for sale.
