Dig It - 3/8/22

This Hopi carving of Paiyakyamu or Tswuku, a Clown of Rio Origin, dates from the late 19th century or early 20th century. The Clown was most likely introduced to Hopi by Rio Pueblo refugees in the 17th century after the Pueblo revolt.

When I was out with the Lone Prospector we actually found a 15th century pictograph of Paiyakyamu. For the whole story see, “Wonderful Things” on the Lonesome Prospector Blog… Very cool.
